In 2023, the <em>Chronicle<\/em> spun off from the for-profit <em>Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em> so that it would be better able to expand its offerings for the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among its signature efforts are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropy.com\/commons\/\">The Commons<\/a><\/strong>, a special section that focuses on how nonprofits and foundations can best work to close the nation\u2019s divides \u2014 including racial, geographic, gender, ideological<ins>,<\/ins> and other divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropy.com\/philanthropy-50\/\">Philanthropy 50<\/a>, <\/strong>an annual ranking of the Americans who give the most to charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropy.com\/americas-favorite-charities\/\">America\u2019s Favorite Charities<\/a>, <\/strong>a look at the organizations that raise the most<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropy.com\/tech-survey-hub-page\/\">Exclusive surveys<\/a>,<\/strong> such as our studies on leadership and technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What philanthropy has accomplished<\/strong>, an in-depth look at the contributions nonprofits is making with support from <a href=\"http:\/\/philanthropy.com\/article\/when-locals-lead-grant-making-20-years-of-results-from-colorado\">foundations<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/philanthropy.com\/article\/8-things-a-mega-donor-did-right-to-engineer-a-miracle\">big donors<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our members can access all this content plus every article we have published for more than three decades. We also offer group subscriptions and site licenses so everyone at a nonprofit organization can benefit from our information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-educating-the-public-about-philanthropy\"><strong>Educating the Public About Philanthropy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond our efforts to serve the information needs of people who work at nonprofits and foundations, a key part of our mission is to help the public better understand the crucial role the social sector plays in communities, across the nation, and around the world. Through our partnership with the Associated Press, we distribute articles to the news service\u2019s members worldwide. In addition, we collaborate with the AP and the Conversation to produce Giving Today, a free weekly newsletter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s more, the <em>Chronicle<\/em> provides <a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropy.com\/philanthropy-nonprofit-accountability-pna-fellowship\/\">stipends and yearlong coaching<\/a> to local news organizations so they can learn more about nonprofits and philanthropy and how to report valuable in-depth articles about these organizations for their audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learn-more-about-our-operations\"><strong>Learn More About Our Operations<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a nonprofit, we make available information about our activities through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philanthropy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/cop-fy24-990-public-disclosure.pdf\">annual Form 990<\/a> informational Internal Revenue Service returns. We also post our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philanthropy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/cop-2025-audited-financial-statements.pdf\">annual audits<\/a>.
